Dr. Benjoe Rey Baguio Visayas is a Balik Scientist currently hosted by Mindanao State University at Naawan under the Department of Science and Technology’s Balik Scientist Program. His expertise lies in computational chemistry, data-driven modeling, and nanotechnology, with applications in environmental science and sustainable innovation. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he focused on materials for next-generation redox flow batteries. He also pursued advanced training in Applied Data Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before returning to the Philippines, he was affiliated with the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Intramural Research Program (NIDA-IRP) of the US National Institutes of Health, where he contributed to AI-assisted drug discovery for substance use disorders. Through his BSP engagement, Dr. Visayas integrates computational tools and machine learning to strengthen local research capacity and provide innovative approaches to address pressing scientific and environmental challenges. Born and raised in Mindanao, he remains deeply committed to advancing science that empowers communities and contributes to national development. |
